Adopt a Child:

Join our Adopt A Child effort for the upcoming After School Program. Not a luxury for our children but a necessity to keep them off the streets & into a safe environment.

Whatever way you choose to help, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that you made a direct difference in the community. This is the time of year that can be overwhelming to needy individuals and families, but especially to children. Your generosity can turn the summer into a happy memory for a child.

If you'd like to join the effort, call Sr. Claudette Harris at 274-5986. Donations are welcome anytime.

What Is A Hero?

Heroes come in many shapes, sizes, ages - but what makes a hero?

A hero is an ordinary person who is successful because he is still running the race when everyone else has given up! A hero is someone who demonstrates courage and takes risks - someone who does not always take the easy road. A hero is someone who touches you or the world. A hero is someone who teaches you something. Many of our children here are heroes - learning to survive and exist in a world of crime, drugs and violence - and some day make a difference in the world. But heroes need nurturing they need to come to a place to find their strength.

They need to come to Sunnyside - but they can't afford it without your help.

Here are a few of our heroes (whose names have been changed for the children's safety):

Adasia, who is in third grade, has learned to survive without her mother. She lives with her father and brother. Through counseling and nurturing she is learning to cope with life struggles, and she will be successful. Uki is 6 years old and was removed from his home and placed in foster care because of his unstable parents. He is a bright boy and through counseling and nurturing, he is learning to survive and he will be successful. Isabell is in middle school. She lives with her mother with her father having been removed from home. She is learning to deal with the repercussions of her father's actions and adjusting well to life's challenges. Children are our most valuable resource and Sunnyside Center strives to create a more wholesome environment in which children can develop into healthy and happy adults. We deliver the necessary academic and emotional support that enhances a child's individual growth. Sunnyside Center is a resource that helps children and their families get through the rough patches. Our staff is there for the primary detection, intervention and prevention of difficult circumstances for the children of Sunnyside, helping kids be heroes.

Will you help our other heroes? Please give to the Scholarship Fund today.

Planned Giving:

When you include Sunnyside Center in your will, it is a simple way of making a more substantial gift than you could during your lifetime. Options include designating a dollar amount, donating a specific item (such as your home), or establishing a "residual bequest" in which you leave the Foundation the remainder of your estate after expenses and other bequests.

Trusts. These legal structures may help protect your assets, provide for yourself or loved ones, and gain tax advantages. After fulfilling its primary objectives, the trust can stipulate that all remaining proceeds are donated to the Foundation.

Life Insurance. You may list the Foundation as a beneficiary to your policy, or transfer ownership and beneficiary status to the Foundation.
